Where Is Sculptra Effective?

Does the treatment hurt?

Some patients report that being injected with Sculptra feels like a pinch. Your provider may use ice to numb the treatment area. If you are concerned about discomfort, let your provider know and a topical numbing cream can be applied before administering your treatment.

How long does the treatment take?

The treatment takes approximately 15+ minutes per session and requires minimal downtime or recovery. Sculptra is injected in 3 sessions over 3-4 months for the best results, which can last up to 2 years.

When will I see results?

Sculptra is designed to provide noticeable results that build gradually. Over the course of your 3 injections, the poly-L-lactic acid stimulates new collagen to build, which provides gradual volume replacement. Over the weeks following your injections, your results will continue to build naturally and gradually.

We recommend the following:

  • Stay upright/vertical position for 4-6 hours post-injection.
  • Refrain from any activities that may increase circulation to the area such as exercise, excess heat from sun, jacuzzis or saunas for 24 hours.
  • Over the counter medications such as aspirin, ibuprofen, Motrin, Advil, alive and some herbal medicines may increase the risk and/or worsen bruising. You may be instructed to avoid these medications unless prescribed by your physician. Discuss ALL current and new medications with your injector prior to treatment. You may be instructed to refrain from alcohol consumption for 24 hours. If bruising does occur you may use arnica montana as directed by your injectionist.
  • Unless otherwise instructed, do no massage/stimulate the treated area.
  • You may be asked to refrain from full body massage for 48 hours.
  • Discuss the use of Retin-A type products and chemical peels post injection with your injector.

Risks & Complications

Side effects of Scultra are similar to those with any dermal filler. These include redness, swelling, tenderness, bruising, slight bleeding, itching, and formation of small lumps. These issues should pass quickly, as poly-L-lactic acid is a biocompatible, biodegradable substance that the body accepts.
